Conduct unbecoming: 17 candidates reported for violations

The candidates are accused of tagging bigger posters and banners than the size allowed by the election commission.

LAHORE: District Returning Officer Nazir Ahmed Ganjana took note of violations of the election commission’s code of conduct for the general elections in various areas on Wednesday. He directed the district coordination officer, the CCPO, and the Parks and Horticultural Authority director to remove the banners, posters and hoardings. Ganjana directed them to ensure that candidates complied with the code of conduct and to submit a report in a week. The monitoring team had earlier submitted a report alleging code violations by 17 candidates that include Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz candidates Naseer Bhutta (NA-127), Abdul Majeed Chunn (NA-118), Rana Tajammul Hussain (PP-153), Khawaja Imran Nazeer (PP-153) and Malik Shahid (PP-139); Babar Sohail Butt (NA-127) and Chaudhry Tariq Kamboh (PP-157) from Pakistan Peoples Party; and Amjad Khan, Rana Amir Manzoor, Fareed Ahmed Khan and Abdul Aleem Khan from Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf. Mian Aslam Iqbal and several other independent candidates were similarly accused. The candidates were accused of tagging bigger posters and banners than the size allowed by the election commission. Wall chalking was also observed in many areas.
