SHO Agha Asad had left his house on Tuesday evening to tend to a personal matter. Travelling in his car, he was ambushed by unidentified armed men riding on motorcycles near the Bohri Bazar. They shot at him multiple times before fleeing, leaving Asad for dead.
Critically injured, rescue teams rushed the officer to the Civil Hospital. As doctors tended to his wounds, he passed away.
Deputy superintendent (DSP) Zamir Abbasi termed his death a “serious loss” to the department.
Soon after the attack, police cordoned off the crime scene and deployed pickets across the town in search of the culprits, said DSP Abbasi.
Despite losing one of their own, the police has yet to ascertain a motive behind the killing.
