ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court remarked on Tuesday that former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf can be summoned to the court for appointing his son-in-law Raja Azeemul Haque in the World Bank, reported Express News.

Justice Saqib Nasir said that Ashraf had misused his position by appointing his son-in-law to a key post using his discretionary powers.

The court also said that it has the right to review an executive’s decisions.

Taking suo motu notice of a media report, the Supreme Court had earlier summoned all records of the nomination of Haque. The apex court had also issued notices to Haque, the establishment secretary and the economic affairs division (EAD) secretary, summoning them to appear before the court.

A cabinet minister told The Express Tribune that Haque joined the World Bank as an alternate executive director in Washington.

There are similar appointments of sons in law and brothers in law in government institutions such as National Bank and Pak Oman. SC should summon them too.
