Geo News reported that Ashraf’s papers were rejected because he was accused of misappropriating funds and indulging in nepotism.
He will be able to appeal the commission's decision within three days.
Ashraf was given the title of ‘Raja Rental’ after he was accused of receiving kickbacks in the rental power projects.
He was also accused of buying property in London from money earned through corruption in various scams.
The Election Commission of Pakistan completed the initial scrutiny of nomination papers earlier during the day.
Nomination papers of several prominent politicians were rejected after objections were raised on them.
The politicians included former president Pervez Musharraf whose papers were rejected in Karachi and Kasur.

Are you sure this is a good precedence that returning officers are effectively dispensing justice on the fly and the elections are no longer about people's mandate but rather who can get through the rather arbitrary selection method of returning officers? You have probably heard the story of Andher nagari chaupat raja takeser bhaaji takeser khaaja. Even though such arbitrariness may occassionally yield decisions one likes, in the end it undermines the transparency and predictability of the system. I am not impacted by what is going on. It is for you all to think about the longer term consequences that this engenders.

It is great news as a corrupt person will not become a member of next parliament. He is responsible for closure of Neelum-Jehlum Hydropower project, which is having great strategic national importance, by diverting all available developments funds (as per media report about Rs. 37 billion) to his personal constituency at the cost of this and many other national projects. Such people must be tried under Article 6 of the Constitution of Pakistan to set an example for others.
There are times when even this flawed system gets it right...........and this is one of them.

News is that nepotism and diverting funds to his constituency rendered him not 'sadiq' and 'ameen'. I wonder doling out party tickets and govt. offices to family (brother, nephews, son-in-law, etc) and diverting development funds to Lahore falls in which category? And by the way Khawaja Saraas who earn their livelihood through dance and songs qualify the litmus test of 62/63, but not poor ayaz amir.

Fyi Raja Pervaiz Ashraf is native of Sanghar in Sindh I think. He is a Sindhi of Punjabi origin. Maybe Gojar Khan is his ancestral village

It is jungle law in Pakistan where person right can be taken on mere accusation not on conviction. This way anybody can accuse other for some wrong doing to disqualify him or her from contesting. Other point: RO already given judgement before any trial. Will RO be held accountable in future if person found not guilty by your supreme court? If answer is yes then what the punishment will be? For Pakistan as a nation it seem true that this country run on emotion not on Law.

So every one who has not favored Army and Islamists rule in Pakistan will be rejected by the ECP. The nomination papers of ASWJ (Sipa-e-Sahaba) candidates are accepted where as an intellectual like Ayaz Amir has been rejected.
This is good news! We should all support this.
