Retailers have unilaterally increased prices of milk and yogurt by Rs5 in the city and cantonment areas.
Earlier, milk was sold at Rs65 to 70 per kilogram and yogurt at Rs75 to Rs80 per kilogram.
The retailers claimed that they had to increase the prices after the wholesalers jacked up the rates.
A representative of the retailers, Altaf, said that the increase in prices had become inevitable in the wake of shooting up of prices of everything.
“We have demanded of the city district government to increase prices from Rs5 to Rs10, but it is yet to be accepted by them,” he said.
Faisal, a resident of Peoples’ Colony, Tench Bhatta, said that they were already buying milk and yogurt at exorbitant prices and further increase in prices would make them out of reach of the masses.
The citizens have urged the authorities concerned to take note of the issue and save them from profiteers.
