Going a step further towards recovery of outstanding government dues, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday made public the names of electricity bill defaulters as the deadline for voluntary payment expired on Thursday.


According to the preliminary lists of electricity bill defaulters released by NAB, 242 power connections from five divisions in Sindh owe Rs167.7 million to the government.

The lists, currently only covering three stations, are being updated continuously as data is pouring in from various stations.

Most of the big defaulters are government installations or official residences provided by the government whose bills are paid by the federal, provincial or local governments.

The defaulters from Sukkur, Ghotki, Khairpur, Ranipur and Rohri divisions include government departments, offices and the official residences of civil judges, police officers and a few businessmen. Ranipur district owes the highest amount with Rs59.2 million while Khairpur and Ghotki owe Rs47.7 million and Rs40.2 million respectively.
