A-Level certificate of former MNA declared fake

ISLAMBAD: The Inter Board Committee of Chairman (IBCC) declared the A-Level certificate of Former MNA Sheikh Waqas Akram -- who had recently joined PML-N -- fake, Express News reported on Thursday.

The IBCC further revealed that Akram had not yet submitted his O-Level certificate.

Akram recently left Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) and joined Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N). He used to contest elections from the Jhang city National Assembly seat, NA-89.

Akram resigned as a minister and as a member of the National Assembly in order to join the PML-N.

He had announced that if the PML-N were elected to a power, a university would be built in Jhang.

PML-N MNA caught out

The District and session court declared former PML-N MNA Salman Mohsin Gillani a proclaimed offender in a fake degree case. The court also ordered to freeze his assets. The guarantor for Salman Mohsin will also face charges.

The former MNA won the national assembly seat during the 2008 elections from Pakpattan on PML-N’s ticket.

K-P MPA sentenced

A district and session judge handed over a penalty of Rs3,000 and one year sentence in jail to former ANP MPA of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Syed Aaqil Shah.

He was elected a member in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly in 2008 and was minister for sports.

Aaqil had submitted two degrees earlier, both of which were declared fake.

He submitted a degree from American law college of Lahore which was not proven fake or bogus but the institute did not have affiliation with Higher Education Commission (HEC).

Ongoing action

District courts and police across the country swung into action on April 2, awarding sentences and arresting former lawmakers and aspiring electoral candidates alike for submitting fake degrees and dual nationalities.

The Supreme court had ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to take action against candidates with fake degrees and dual nationals on April 1.

Those convicted in fake degree cases will be ineligible to run in the elections.
