ISLAMABAD: The deadline for the payment of outstanding electricity dues before the names of defaulters are made public expires today (Thursday).

“The National Accountability Bureau will give the names of those bill defaulters who fail to pay their dues by April 4 to the media,” said the bureau’s spokesperson on Wednesday.

“Defaulters can avoid embarrassment by paying their bills before April 5.”

NAB has established special cells at all power distribution companies (DISCOs) which will monitor the payment of dues and will update the list of defaulters. Their names will be sent to the NAB headquarters in Islamabad and subsequently made public. Later, NAB will start arresting defaulters who fail to pay outstanding dues by April 19 this year.

A public notice through newspaper advertisements was floated on March 21, 2013. The defaulters were asked to pay their dues by April 4, 2013.
