PESHAWAR:

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Wednesday handed over the alleged murderer of a 24-year-old woman to the police for a five-day physical remand.

On Tuesday, the police arrested Jamshed, who allegedly killed Noor Bibi at the Lady Reading Hospital on March 26. Bibi had been violently assaulted and her charred body was found in the operation theatre’s washroom.

On Wednesday, police presented Jamshed before the court where ATC Judge Azhar Ali handed him over to the police for a five-day remand.

On March 27, Peshawar High Court (PHC) took notice of the brutal killing after the court’s Human Rights Directorate reported the issue. The court summoned LRH and police officials the same day, directing them to arrest those responsible within seven days.

Terming the first autopsy incomplete, the court on March 28 ordered the body to be exhumed and a second autopsy conducted. The court also constituted an independent medical board responsible for collecting the remains and conducting the autopsy so that the case could reach a conclusion.
