PESHAWAR:

A women wing leader from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Farzana Zain has quit the party and joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

Zain officially announced ending her more than a decade-long affiliation with the PTI at a press conference on Wednesday. “The PTI is not really what it stands for,” she said, adding offices within the party are not given on merit.

Chief organiser for PML-N’s women wing, Sobia Khan, PML-N youth wing secretary information Khadim Ali Khan and PML-N candidate for NA-2 Peshawar-II Abdul Bari Khattak were also present at the press briefing.

Zain said she has worked for years to make the PTI a prominent party in Peshawar and hoped to secure a higher office, but this did not happen. “The party (PTI) stands for merit-based policies in the society while there are no merit-based promotions within the party”.

From the union council level to the highest level of the organisation, people are selected on personal likes and affiliations, she added.

She said she has tried time and again to inform party leader Imran Khan via text messages and emails, but he did not care to respond.

“They (PTI leaders) have played with the emotions of people by promising for change. But there is no practicality to this,” she claimed, adding that other PTI workers are soon to follow her steps and join the PML-N.

Khattak added the PTI was only sloganeering for change. “We will show people what change is in reality by awarding tickets on merit to party workers.”

Uzma, be realistic. In your heart and mind you know that you were not elected for the higher office. PTI made all the decisions based on elections. You took advantage of high time in this election and broke into PML-N for a better position. No one has problem with that. But please don't make false accusations.
