KARACHI: A search operation was conducted in Landhi by the Karachi police earlier today, Express News reported. Suspected killer Hanif Arf Chatha was arrested along with 16 other alleged criminals. Chatha is wanted for killing police personnel and other serious crimes.

The raid response team worked with Rangers and Karachi police during this operation. The team raided and searched a number of homes in the process. SSP East, Imran Shaukat says there are no longer any no-go areas in the East Zone.

Rangers and Karachi police are both involved in operations in the area, and are trying to control criminal activities.

Last month, a report was submitted to the Supreme Court (SC) during a hearing on the Karachi violence suo moto case.

The report mentioned around 208 target killers and 238 extortionists belonging to political parties and banned outfits were arrested from Karachi.

A five-member bench – headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry -- questioned the government’s failure to end no-go areas in the city.

The bench concluded that the government has failed to address the issue seriously.
