FAISALABAD: Chairman Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Syed Raghib Abbas Shah said that bundled power houses will be made functional to meet the increased demand of electricity during the upcoming summer season. He was talking to a delegation of Collective Bargaining Agent Pegham Union during his visit to Faisalabad.

Shah said that the total generation of Wapda has increased from 7,900 megawatts (MW) to 8,300 MW, reaching 9,300 MW of electricity during peak hours from 5pm to 9pm. However, he added, different measures need to be undertaken to bridge the gap between demand and supply of electricity.

He said that a high level meeting has already been convened on April 2, 2013 at Lahore, during which important decisions to arrange gas and furnace oil for closed power houses would be made in consultation with Chief Executive Officer Faisalabad Electric Supply Corporation.

He further said that in the second phase Wapda towns would also be launched in different cities to provide residential facilities to employees.

Shah said that a uniform merit-based policy would be adopted by all distribution companies for the acquisition of residences in these towns. He assured the immediate implementation of the employee’s son quota, however made it clear that no one would be allowed to misuse this facility.

He assured employees that all problems would be resolved on priority basis but unions should also desist from supporting persons involved in illegal acts.
