Gun battle: Three killed in Hangu shootout

Heavy gunfire started between the Hakim and Asif Baghi groups on Friday.

HANGU: Three people were killed in a shootout between two of Maulana Nabi Hanfi’s groups in Darsamand, Doaba, on Friday night. Aleem Khan, an official of Doaba police said heavy gunfire started between the Hakim and Asif Baghi groups on Friday, creating panic for residents of the area. He further said after a two-hour gunfight three persons from Hakim’s group were killed while members of Asif Baghi’s group managed to escape unhurt. “Asif’s group attacked Hakeem’s men in order to take control of Darsamand,” said Khan. Khan added the dead were identified as Jehanzeb, Gulmat Khan and Sourat Gul. He said after the gunfight, hundreds of Darsamand residents rushed towards the Hakeem compound in the vicinity and set it on fire, forcing Hakeem and his men to flee the area.
