SUKKUR: Three people were killed and three others injured on Friday during an armed clash in Khairpur between two groups of the Gopang clan over a matrimonial dispute.

Twelve years ago, Ghous Bux Gopang had married a widow whose son, Asghar Gopang, was vehemently against the idea. Back then, the dispute seemed as if it had been settled amicably by tribal elders, but Asghar was still fuming and sought to kill Ghous Bux.

On Friday, Asghar and some accomplices headed to Alam Khan Gopang village and barged into Ghous Bux’s house, which is located within the jurisdiction of the Shah Abdul Latif University police station. The men opened fire, killing Ghous Bux and injuring Sajjad Gopang. After this, Asghar and his gang of attackers tried to flee, but members of Ghous Bux’s group gave chase and opened fire at them near the outskirts of the village. Asghar and Ranjhan Gopan died at the spot while his accomplices Riaz and Pehlwan Gopang were injured.

The police took the bodies and the injured to Civil Hospital, Khairpur.

The bodies were handed over to the families after an autopsy, but no case was registered till the filing of this report.
