Central body elections: Model colleges’ staffers elect new office-bearers

Elections for the new central body of the Central Academic Staff Association of Islamabad Model Colleges were held on Thursday at Islamabad Model College for Boys, G-10/4. 


The office bearers of the local bodies of all model colleges participated in the voting.  The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Professor Najeeb Dar announced the unofficial results.

According to the CEC, Rashid Khan has been elected president, Mehboob Ahmed will be the senior vice president, and Gulnaz Rahi will be vice president. In addition, Murad Ali is the new general secretary, Farzana Akram will be the joint secretary, Altaf Hussain will be the finance secretary, and Nuzhat Maghfoor will be the information secretary.

Four executive members were also elected, namely Sarfraz Mehmood, Ziauddin, Tabinda Tahir and Rubina Anwar.

Newly-elected President Khan said, “The existence of a recognised body of teachers is a precondition for interdepartmental harmony. The elected body will be helpful in promoting effective communication between teachers and the administration.”

It will provide support to ensure that differences of opinion do not turn into conflicts, he added.  General Secretary Professor Ali said CASA will play an effective part in maintaining a good relationship between teachers and the various administrative organs such as the Federal Directorate of Education, Capital Administration and Development Ministry, and other relevant departments.

Senior Vice President Ahmed said he was determined to resolve the issues facing teachers, and listed implementation of time-scale formula and pending rental ceilings among them.
