In custody: LeJ militant arrested

Fazlur Rehman was wanted in several cases of sectarian violence and terrorist attacks.

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The police arrested a member of banned militant outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) on Wednesday, said an official of the DI Khan district police office.

Fazlur Rehman was reportedly wanted for involvement in sectarian violence and terrorist attacks across the district. He was a resident of Mohallah Fatheullah Badshah, and was nicknamed Fazal Mujahid.

Police also recovered a 30-bore pistol and 13 bullets from his possession. He has been shifted to an unknown location for further interrogation, added the official.

According to him, Rehman was involved in the suicide attack on a DPO office in DI Khan on January 14, 2012, in which three people, including a police official, were killed.

He was also involved in a suicide attack on a police mobile on March 5, 2012, in which five police officials, including DSP Abdul Ghaffar, were injured. Additionally, Rehman was wanted for taking part in a number of cases of sectarian violence and terrorist activities.



Meanwhile, a dumper vehicle belonging to the 21 Engineer Unit of the Frontier Works Organisation was targeted by a roadside bomb near Gomal Zam Dam in Wana, South Waziristan. An official of the political administration said the driver, Sadam Khan, was injured while the vehicle was partially damaged.

Security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation following the incident. No person or group had claimed responsibility for the attack till the filing of this report.
