Residents of Frontier Region (FR) Kohat on Tuesday warned that if the office of the returning officer was not shifted back to their region, they will not vote in the elections and would take their case to court.
Addressing a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club, elders of FR Kohat, Malik Fida Muhammad, Noor Zaman and Nowsher said former labour minister Sher Azam Wazir had shifted the office of the returning officer from FR Kohat to FR Bannu on Monday night, without prior information or giving any reasons.
“The minister wants to manipulate the elections and thus shifted the office to his constituency from where he will contest for NA-47. This is pre-election rigging,” alleged Malik Fida.
The office in question serves as the only office for the six FR regions. It has been operational for the last 50 years and around 0.1 million voters are registered with it. Now all candidates have to get their nomination papers from Bannu, Malik said.
The elders warned they had the legal right to approach the Election Commission of Pakistan and the Peshawar High Court to get their concerns heard.
