Former housing minister accused of illegal flat occupation

Victim claims she is being forced to reach settlement.

ISLAMABAD:

A woman has appealed to the Supreme Court and Inspector General (IG) of the Islamabad Police Bani Amin to help recover her flat which is now allegedly being occupied by former federal housing minister Sardar Talib Nakai.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Nadia Hussain, resident of Gulshan-e-Jinnah, claimed that Nakai entered the flat with armed men and threatened to evict her before looting Rs300,000, jewellery and prize bonds.

She complained that the Secretariat police were reluctant to register an FIR and forced her to visit the police station several times.

“Instead of registering the FIR the police asked me to reach a settlement,” she said.



Hussain said the case was registered after she had submitted a writ petition in the sessions court, while adding that Nakai had threatened her with dire consequences if a settlement wasn’t reached.

However, when contacted, SHO Qaiser said the case was registered on the day the complaint was received.

“We are investigating the matter and if the allegations are proved correct we will take action against the accused,” he said.

Nakai has rejected the claims that he forcefully occupied flat in Gulshan-e-Jinnah and handed over possession to one of his relatives.

In a statement issued here on Monday, Nakai clarified he had never indulged in illegal plot allotments during his term as federal minister.
