Settling scores: Five killed allegedly over old enmities

Residents say nine people have already died in a dispute between Jalbani and Rind clans.

SUKKUR: Five people, including a woman, were killed in separate incidents of violence to allegedly settle old scores in Khairpur and Sukkur on Sunday.

Muneer Ahmed Ansari, and his son, Raja Ansari, were shot dead by three men near Pir Jo Goth, Khairpur, allegedly over a land dispute. Ansari, who is a butcher by profession, was slaughtering animals with his son when the incident occurred. The culprits managed to escape from the scene. Pir Jo Goth police transferred bodies of the deceased to the Basic Health Unit, Khairpur. According to residents of the area, Ansari had been involved in a land dispute with members of the Jalbani and Rind clan for the past few years. They also mentioned that nine people, eight from Ansari clan and one from Rind clan, had died in the dispute so far.



In a separate incident, Ali Khan Dasti reportedly shot dead Sukhan Jai, and injured Mourzadi Dasti, in Dato Dasti village, Khairpur.

Ali, who is a resident of Thari Mir Wah village, was visiting Dato Dasti for his son’s marriage when a group of men, including Habibullah Dasti, stopped him and asked him to go back. Ali allegedly opened fire, killing Habibullah’s wife and injuring Mourzadi Dasti, the wife of Hoat Khan Dasti. The Thari Mir Wah police transferred the deceased and injured to the Rural Health Centre, Khairpur. Mourzadi, who was in a critical condition, was transferred later to Khairpur Civil Hospital. No case was registered till the filing of this report.

Additionally, two friends, Jam Mahesar and a policeman named Ubaidullah Mahesar, were shot dead by a group of unidentified men in Pano Akil, Sukkur. The culprits fled from the scene. Dadlo police transferred the bodies to the Pannu Aqil taluka hospital. The head constable of Dadlo police station, Zameer Ahmed Qazi, explained that members of Kalhoro clan had an old dispute with those of the Mahesar clan. No case has been registered as yet.
