Most of the employees fired were government schoolteachers hired between 2009 and 2011 and were terminated without a show-cause notice, a move termed as a violation of law.
“Chief Secretary Sajjad Hotiana asked the secretary of education to withdraw the notification of termination and serve the teachers with a show-cause notice first,” said the official, requesting anonymity. The notification of termination was then revoked.
Earlier, a statement issued from Hotiana’s office asked government officials to follow due procedure when making decisions on hiring and firing. No unilateral decision should be taken without giving the aggrieved party an opportunity to defend oneself, it read.

The sacked employees had approached the courts challenging the termination. The court had summoned the chief secretary and other officials for the next hearing.
