Caretaker CM Justice Alvi says his office will always be open to the public.

KARACHI:

The caretaker chief minister of Sindh, Justice (retd) Zahid Qurban Alvi, assured the people of the province on Saturday that he would try his best to solve their problems during his time - but it would not be an easy task.

“How can I resolve all the issues within days, which could not be redressed by the outgoing government in the last five years?” he asked. “I do not have a magic wand to fix all the problems in minutes.”

Justice Alvi announced that the doors of the CM House will be open to the public from 11am to 1:30pm on working days. Addressing a programme organised by the Rotary International, he said that during his tenure as caretaker CM, he will strive to restore peace in Karachi.

“Everybody is welcome at the CM House. I will try to take on board all the major stakeholders, especially the political parties, and request them to play their role in bringing people together,” said Justice Alvi. “I will do as much as I can within this short span of time.”

He said that the caretaker government has evolved a strategy to control the law and order situation and law enforcement agencies have been directed to play their role without accepting any influence.

Alvi, who was also the chairperson of the provincial Zakat council, said that the annual budgetary allocation of Rs900million for the Sindh Zakat Council was being distributed regularly among the deserving people throughout the province. He added that 56,000 people were being given Zakat regularly. “Rotary International and the Zakat department should work together for helping and assisting deserving people.” With regard to the Land Committee, the CM maintained that they only allotted the land after receiving payment as per the market value. “Around Rs14 billion have been collected.”
