Netanyahu talked with his Turkish counterpart Tayyip Erdogan earlier in the day in a telephone call engineered by US President Barack Obama during a visit to Israel, looking to restore badly impaired ties between the two US allies.
"Prime Minister Netanyahu expressed an apology to the Turkish people for any error that may have led to the loss of life, and agreed to complete the agreement for compensation," the Israeli statement said.
Israeli commandos boarded the Turkish-flagged Mavi Marmara, the largest ship in a flotilla aimed at breaking Israel’s Gaza blockade, on May 31, 2010, leaving nine pro-Palestinian activists dead.

@Donald James:
Defending itself from a ship loaded with basic supplies being sent to besieged population of Gaza???
BRAVO.
@Donald: At least don't get the RECENT history twisted bro. They were all activists and none of them had any weapon or automatic rifles. Everyone watched how Israeli 'girls' landed on that ship!
He apologized because Obama is visiting him
Good political and military move to set for war with Iran but most dangerous country is not Iran but the one that already is an atomic power.
Turkey shows every Muslim country the way to deal with Israel.
In the first instance, there should have been no Israeli blockade. Secondly, there was no need to board a ship when it was not threatening anyone. Basically, Israel should vacate Arab lands it forcibly occupied. But it does not want to live in peace with honor with the Arabs. The Israeli demand of land for peace or recognition of the State before it returns Arab lands has already been met by the Arab states that matter. Now, the ball has been in Israel's court for over many decades. Is continues to defy UN resolutions for bringing peace to the Middle East, as it never has given up its dream of getting back the 'promised land' which would lead to occupation of territories of several neighboring states of Israel.
I am deeply saddened by this development. If Israel made "operational mistakes" they pale in comparison to the actions of the other side. The Israeli commandos are clearly shown in video recordings as having their lives threatened by well armed gangs on the ship. The Israelis boarded with paint-ball guns and only pulled their weapons when attacked. Thanks President Obama for once again impugning Israel for simply defending itself.
I deeply and sincerely Apologize (fingers crossed) for telling my sheyshat commandos, to board the Turk tug and be the cause of departing Turkish (Goiym) souls. Mates now..!!
