Parliamentary committee concludes second meeting, no decision made

The Parliamentary committee has time till Friday, March 22 to finalise a name for the caretaker prime minister.

ISLAMABAD: The eight member parliamentary committee formed to finalise a name for the caretaker prime minister, concluded its second meeting in as many days without deciding on a name, reported Express News on Thursday.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) representative Farooq H Naek said that the decision to meet again tomorrow is in line with the Constitution and hoped that a name will be decided upon soon.

Representative of the Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) Sardar Yaqoob Nasir said that the decision should be reached by Friday, at the latest.

The committee that was formulated by National Assembly speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza was given time till Friday, March 22 to finalise a name for interim permier.

If a decision is not reached within the allotted time, the matter will be handed over to the Election Commission of Pakistan.

My guess is that tomorrow PML-N members will walkout of the committee and blame the other parties for the deadlock, saying that they couldn't bargain on their "principled stand" (of my way or the highway). Their track record says precisely that. They really are not sincere with a resolution here, otherwise they would have picked saner elements like Ishaq Dar, and not the touts of Ch. Nisar for the committee.
