KARACHI: An alleged kidnapper was killed as police launched a bid to recover two abducted traders on Hub River Road on Wednesday.

The encounter took place when personnel belonging to the Anti-Violent Crime Cell and Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) conducted a raid at a suspected hideout on Hub River Road after receiving a tip-off.

According to CPLC officials, when police reached the site, they were allegedly shot at by the kidnappers. Under fire, the police retaliated. One of the alleged kidnappers, who was yet to be identified, was killed in the ensuing crossfire while his four companions managed to escape.

CPLC chief Ahmed Chinoy said that the raid was conducted in a bid to recover two traders, Fahim and Abdullah, who had been abducted from Sher Shah and Mochko areas, respectively. Chinoy said that both traders had been recovered safely during the raid while further investigations were continuing.
