“The city has witnessed cycles of sectarian, political and ethnic violence, which have been broken every time through the cooperation of the CPLC and citizens,” he explained. “We have to combat terrorism collectively and having a system of communal police is essential to do that.”
CPLC chief Ahmed Chinoy felt this new branch of the committee was a historic moment.
“CPLC was established in 1989 but it was accorded legal status in 2003,” he recalled. “It has nine branches in Karachi. It has also established a record of having registered more than 800,000 FIRs and returning 35,000 of the 700,000 mobile phones snatched in Sindh.”
