Acting on the written dissolution advice sent to him by Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Khan signed the documents into law after which the Sindh Assembly and the provincial cabinet, both were dissolved.
The constitutional duration of five years of the provincial legislature would have completed on April 5, it was learnt.
However, Shah would maintain his official designation till the time his successor and the official caretaker setup in Sindh does not assume its responsibilities under oath.
The dissolution of the Sindh legislature was preceded by the dissolution of provincial legislatures in Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
However, the chief minister of Balochistan, Nawab Aslam Raisani, will also maintain his official designation until a caretaker setup is not established in the province.
Earlier, it was reported that Justice (retd) Tariq Pervez would assume the post of the caretaker chief minister in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and would replace the outgoing Amir Haider Khan Hoti.
Pervez's oath taking ceremony would be held on March 20 in Peshawar.
