Balochistan’s Prosecutor General Abdul Wassay Tareen was released in the Dara Band area of Zhob district on Sunday after spending 17 days in captivity. His family insisted that no ransom was paid to the kidnappers.

Tareen was last seen in Zhob district on February 28 while he was on his way to Islamabad to plead some cases in the Supreme Court. His abductors released him in the small hours of March 17.

The prosecutor general recalled that four armed men had intercepted his vehicle near the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa border. The assailants blindfolded him and took him to a nearby jungle – where he was kept all the while. “The abductors also misbehaved with me,” he added.

Tribal leaders secured his release, according to the Tareen family. While addressing the media after returning home, Tareen thanked the elders for securing his release and safe return home.
