KARACHI:

As rumours flew on text messages and the social media that DHA’s Sunday Bazaar was closed indefinitely due to security threats, the housing authority insisted that it was closed just for the day for maintenance.

DHA Vigilance Director Col (retd) M Amjad denied reports of security threats and that the bazaar was being closed permanently. “The sheds and the floors of the bazaar needed maintenance,” he said, promising that it will re-open next Sunday.

“We had no time for maintenance, so we closed it for a week and will be opened from next week,” he explained.

The bazaar is spread over an area of 4,000 square yards in Phase VIII of the Defence Housing Authority and has 700 shops of daily use items including vegetables, fruits, grocery, clothing and books stalls.
