Former finance minister Hafeez Shaikh, former governor of State Bank of Pakistan Dr Ishrat Hussain and Justice (retired) Mir Hazar Khoso were nominated by the premier.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and its like-minded opposition groups had earlier nominated Justice (retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid, Justice (retd) Shakirullah Jan and Rasool Bux Paleejo for the office.
Constitutionally, an interim prime minister has to be chosen by the leader of the house and leader of the opposition in the National Assembly with consensus.
The government had vehemently criticised the opposition’s nominees for the caretaker prime minister.
Earlier in March, Leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had announced the opposition's three names as nominees for the caretaker Prime Minister.
The names proposed included Justice Nasir Alsam Zahid, Shakirullah Jan and Rasul Bakhsh Palijo.

Dr. Ishrat Hussain is a man of principle and symbol of integrity.
If government will go to the people and ask in referendum, majority of the voters in Pakistan and Overseas Pakistanis will cast their votes in favour of Dr. Ishrat Hussain to be the Care-Taker Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Justice Nasir Aslam Zahid the nominee of opposition is the best choice whereas Dr Ishrat Hussain nominee of Govt is the better than the remaining four.

My "aam insaan" dad knew Dr. Ishrat Hussain a while back. He has nothing but good stuff to say about the man. Dr Ishrat Hussain has my vote too :)
I would personally like to see Altaf Hussain as care taker prime minister.
@Roger Eli: My hunch is that Dr. Ishrat Hussain, would be our caretaker Prime Minister. Formal announcement is only the matter of time.
Though I believe Dr Ishrat is a wonderful choice but I dont want him to be a part of this political melodrama! He is already doing a splendid job as Dean and Director of IBA Karachi. I want him to be an IBA dean for at least 10 more years or only if hez been shortlisted for caretaker govt i hope caretaker govt remains for 3 years the least to remove all dirt which exists in this country with army support. Otherwise he is good for me as IBA Dean! He is doing a splendid job there! While I know Justice Nasir Aslam Zahid is a good choice also, he is a good man also apart from Dr Hussain!

It makes me wonder if Hafeez Shaikh is on the list because he was always intended to be there or if it was the publicity about the possibility. I suppose it doesn't matter either way.
mr. shaikh has been miserably failed to deliver positive performance in 5 years. Ironically, PPP is still nominating his name for caretaker prime minister.

I must commend PMLN here for giving best names for caretaker PM after getting feedback from all opposition parties. What is PPP thinking by giving the name of it's own finance minister for this crucial post?

Definitely not Hafeez Shaikh. He's been the most incompetent and ineffective Finance Minister in Pakistan's recent history. My vote would be for Dr. Ishrat Hussain.
Dr. Ishrat Hussain selection as caretaker premier would increase the confidence of all the stakeholders both at domestic and international level in conducting a free and fair electoion in the country.
I guess Dr Ishrat Hussain is a sensible and neutral choice but PPP and its allies will push for Hafeez Shaikh for their own favors.
