KARACHI: Pakistan Muslim League – Functional (PML-F) approved three names for Sindh caretaker chief minister, Express News reported on Wednesday.

The approved names include that of Aslam Sanjrani, Khair Muhammad Junejo and Hussain Abdullah.

The PML-F had earlier accused the Muttahida Qaumi Movement – on its decision to sit on opposition benches - of conspiring with the ruling PPP to gain more authority in setting up interim government.

After the 18th Amendment, the role of opposition leader has gained considerable significance. The amendment bounds the chief minister to consult with the opposition leader to appoint caretaker chief ministers in the province.

Caretaker setup

Under the Constitution, it is the prerogative of the premier and chief ministers to dissolve national and provincial assemblies, respectively before the expiry of their five-year term.

Currently, the National Assembly will complete its term on March 16 and provincial assembly of Punjab is the last to complete its tenure on April 11.

The Sindh CM had earlier in the week requested the opposition to furnish their names for caretaker set-up.
