A man was arrested from Faisalabad on Tuesday for allegedly helping a woman kill her husband in Rahim Yar Khan two days ago. The woman was arrested on Monday. The man had fled the scene at that time.
Police said the man, identified as Naveed Ahmed, denied having helped the woman. They said they had not recovered any weapon when they searched his house.
Investigation Officer Raees Ahmed of the A-Division police station in Rahim Yar Khan said that the deceased, Tanveer Ahmed, a resident of Usman Park, had married Tahira Bibi in 2011. They said Tahira Bibi had developed a relationship with Naveed, the couple’s common friend in Faisalabad.
On Monday, police said, Tahira Bibi invited Naveed over for dinner. They said she had drugged Tanveer’s food. After he lost consciousness, Tahira and Naveed stabbed him. They said Naveed then left as part of their plan, while Tahira Bibi started shouting for help, pretending that her husband had been killed on resisting a robber. Some neighbours, who rushed to help her, said they were told that the robber had fled.
Tanveer, who was still alive at that time, was taken to a hospital, but died a few hours later. The body was then sent for a post-mortem examination.
Police said they had arrested Tahira Bibi on suspicion after her father-in-law Mohammad Anwar filed a complaint against her. He alleged that some relatives had been talking about Tahira Bibi’s relationship with Naveed, but, he added, “we did not believe them then”.
He said the robbery story appeared suspicious as the lock on the main door was still intact and nothing had been taken from the house.
