DI KHAN:

An alleged would-be attacker killed himself with a grenade on Saturday after being surrounded by the police in Daraban area.

A suspicious man tried to pass the Daraban check post, but started running away after spotting a police van, said a police official.

However, police personnel chased and eventually surrounded the suspect, who killed himself with a hand grenade. None of the policemen were hurt in the incident.

DI Khan DPO Sohail Khalid rushed to the scene following the incident and launched a search operation in the area. Khalid and other officials were still at the site when this report was filed.

The national identity card recovered from the suspect revealed he was 33 years old. Police, however, did not disclose the man’s name.

It remains unclear whether he was a suicide bomber, said another police official. He was hesitant to reveal details, saying investigation is underway.

The DPO has put the police in DI Khan city on high alert to prevent any terrorist attacks. Daraban police check post is located on the border of Frontier Region Darazinda and DI Khan.
