Shops were shut down and members of different political and religious organisations took to the streets after they heard that Dr Mumtaz Ali Memon, who had been posted in Dewan Jo Kario village, Moro, was kidnapped by unidentified armed men on Thursday morning.
Medical staff at the taluka hospital, Moro, boycotted their duties on Thurday and Friday demanding that police trace Dr Memon and provide security to the medical staff.
After suspending Moro SHO Ali Akbar Marri on Friday due to his inability to control the law and order situation in his taluka, Naushero Feroze SP Syed Imdad Muhammad Shah proceeded to appeal to Dr Memon’s family to stay calm and promised that the doctor will be traced within 24 hours.

The police, who suspect that the kidnappers might still be in Moro, have set up pickets at all exit points of the taluka. “The police are on high alert and the kidnappers will be traced soon,” explained ASI Aijaz Khoso.
Dr Memon was in his late forties and was a heart patient. His family fears that the experience of being kidnapped might result in his death. “My father has had heart surgery done twice. I appeal to the kidnappers to release him immediately,” Dr Memon’s elder son, Sharjeel Memon told Sindh Express. Sharjeel claimed that his father was a social activist and had no enmity with anyone.
The family had not received any telephone calls for ransom by the time this story had been filed. They also haven’t registered the case yet. The police found Dr Memon’s motorcycle near his hospital.
