National One-Day Cup: Adnan spins Panthers to win over Lions

Peshawar outfit claims victory by 80 runs, Eagles down Hawks.

Mohammad Adnan grabbed an impressive five-for as Peshawar Panthers shocked Lahore Lions with an 80-run win in their Faysal Bank One-Day group B third round match at the Gaddafi Stadium yesterday.


Set a target of 295, Lions bundled out for 214 in 47.4 overs as Adnan ran through their batting lineup. Salman Ali Agha scored 42 while Zohaib Khan chipped in with three wickets.

Earlier, Panthers had accumulated 294 for seven, thanks to half-centuries from Nawaz Ahmed (93), Iftikhar Ahmed (81) and Mohammad Rizwan (55). Aizaz Cheema bagged a five-wicket haul but conceded 61 runs.

Meanwhile, Karachi Zebras continued their impressive unbeaten run as they narrowly defeated Faisalabad Wolves by a run courtesy of the D/L method at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.

Batting first, Zebras were bowled out for 215 in 46 overs as Khurram Manzoor scored 56 off 66 balls with six boundaries. Samiullah Niazi claimed three wickets.

The match was interrupted due to poor light with the Wolves at 180 for seven in 43 overs. Zeeshan Butt’s unbeaten 67 came to no avail as Misbah Khan dismissed two batsmen.

Islamabad too won by the D/L method downing Abbottabad Falcons by 20 runs at the Diamond Ground.

Leopards had made 275 for nine in their quota while batting first as Umair Khan starred with 91 not out hitting a six and five boundaries.

Falcons could only score 244 for nine in 47.4 overs with Yasir Shah scoring a 59-ball 66 while Kamran Ghulam made a run-a-ball 60.

Eagles win in battle against Hawks

In group A, Lahore Eagles came on top by four wickets against Hyderabad Hawks at the Municipal Sports Comples, Mirpur Khas.

Chasing a target of 238, Eagles were home, easily making 241 for six with two overs to spare as Sami Aslam stood out with a 71-run knock while Jahangir Mirza made 54.

Earlier, Hawks were bowled out for 237 in their quota of 50 overs. Rizwan Fareed compiled a gutsy 73 while Taj Wassan contributed 69 runs to the total. Off-spinner Adnan Rasool got four scalps.

Elsewhere, Bahawalpur Stags won a low-scoring match against Quetta Bears by six wickets as they chased the target of 145 in just 31.5 overs. Imranullah slammed 93 off 88 balls, clubbing four sixes and 10 boundaries at the Mir Cricket Ground, Mir Je Landhi.

In another match, Mansoor Amjad’s undefeated 103 helped Sialkot Stallions to a five-wicket win against Multan Tigers at Ghari Khuda Bakhsh.
