Shah was addressing a gathering at the inauguration ceremony of the Watan Cards Centre at a relief camp set up at the Comprehensive High School in Khairpur.
According to the chief minister, over seven million people in Sindh have been affected by the floods. “It is a tremendous challenge to provide food and other necessary items to seven million people but we will meet this challenge,” said Shah. The government plans to help flood survivors by providing seeds and fertiliser to all those growers who own 25 acres or less land so that next year’s crop is not too badly affected, he said.
Each family is being given Rs20,000 through the Watan Card scheme and the prime minister has also announced that Rs10,000 will be given to each flood survivor.
MNA Choudhry Manzoor Hussain, parliamentary secretary for health MNA Dr Mehreen Bhutto, Mohan Lal Kohistani and others were present at the ceremony.
After the ceremony, the chief minister visited the Tori Bund and reviewed the repair work. Irrigation officers gave a briefing to the chief minister on the current flood situation.
