FAISALABAD:

National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE) will hold its 2nd National Training Course on Bacterial Identification and Met Genomics from March 4 to 8.

Dr Sajjad Mirza, the course organiser, said on Sunday the role of microbes – originating from soil and other sources – is vital in biogeochemical cycles, environmental protection as well as in several products of food, feed and textile industry.

The course, he said, would deal with conventional microbiological techniques to study culturable fractions of bacterial populations.

He said modern molecular techniques will also be employed to study met genomics of non-culturable bacteria in the soil during the course.

Special emphasis will also be on demonstrating extraction of DNA from soil and other sources of mixed bacterial populations by using a specifically designed DNA extraction instrument, Bead Beater, he added.
