Staged Or Real: Suspected robber killed in ‘encounter’

The encounter took place after police party tried to stop five armed robbers when they were fleeing.

RAWALPINDI: A suspected robber was killed in an alleged police encounter in Pirwadhai in the small hours of Saturday.

According to police, the encounter took place after a police party tried to stop five armed robbers near Muhammadi Chowk when they were fleeing, after snatching Rs8,000 cash and a mobile phone from Nisar Iqbal and Haroon Rasheed near Kamran Bakery in Khayaban-e-Sir Syed.

Iqbal and Rasheed informed the Muhafiz squad about the robbery incident. The squad intercepted the robbers near Muhammadi Chowk.

The robbers opened fire at the police party and in retaliation, the police gunned down one of the suspected robbers while others fled, said an official.

The killed robber was identified as Arshad, a resident of Hazara Colony. He was a proclaimed offender and wanted by police in several cases, the official added.

Teams have been formed to arrest other robbers.
