RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) rejected Sehba Musharraf’s plea calling for unfreezing assets of her husband, former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, Express News reported on Saturday.

In 2011, during a trial of the Benazir Bhutto murder case, the Anti Terrorism Court declared Musharraf a proclaimed offender.

Musharraf’s bank accounts were frozen and his property taken over by the courts. Sehba had filed an application against the court’s order.

Sehba said since her husband gifted their farm house in Islamabad to her, the court illegally ordered its confiscation. She also mentioned in her application, that the money in their bank accounts were reserved for the welfare of the general population, hence they cannot be frozen.

After toppling the Nawaz Sharif-led government in 1999, Musharraf got himself elected as the President of Pakistan in an army uniform and stepped down from office in 2008. Since then, Musharraf has been in a self-imposed exile.

Earlier, Pakistani courts had served him legal notices and issued arrest warrants on his name in connection to the Lal Masjid operation and the killings of Baloch leader Nawab Akber Bugti in 2006 and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in 2007.

Musharraf is now the chairman of his own political party All Pakistan Muslim League (APML). In the past, he has said that he would contest elections from Chitral.

@mariya , Don't live in a fool's paradice . Be realistic , Can your courts go beyond the leagal bindings . Musarraf is still hero and will remain a hero when he will return to Pakistan . His grip on Pakistan is still visible . His post election role in shaping the destiny of country can't be over looked .
