Government transfers DG IB

Abdul Wadood Shah replaces Akhtar Gorchani.

LAHORE: The Director General Intelligence Bureau (IB), Sardar Akhtar Hsassan Khan Gorchani has been transferred, with Abdul Wadood Shah named as his replacement, an announcement said on Friday.

The new DG IB, Abdul Wadood Shah was earlier posted as Joint Director General (JDG), the provincial chief of IB, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been appointed on the orders of the prime minister. The Prime PM is also a minister in charge of the IB because IB is not under any ministry or answerable to any one apart from the premier.

The PM Raja Pervez Ashraf had previously appointed Sardar Akhtar Hassan Khan Gorchani as the new Director General (DG) of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) on July 12, 2012.

The change follows a reply submitted to the Supreme Court by Gorchani during the hearing of IB’s secret fund case.

The prime minister was reportedly un-happy with Gorchani for not providing some important reports as advance intelligence despite being chief of the civilian spy agency.

Sardar Akhtar, who is a BPS-21 grade officer in the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), was additional inspector general and serving as the capital city police officer (CCPO) Karachi before his appointment as DG IB.
