“The dates of all my medical checkups were spread over several weeks, but I had them consolidated in one week to shorten my trip,” he said while speaking to the media in Lahore.
He added that he will depart on Wednesday or Thursday and will return by March 10.
The party chief had filed a petition in the Supreme Court calling for reconstitution of the election commission. The petition was dismissed after the apex court questioned Qadri about his dual nationality.
Qadri, maintaining that voters are allowed to hold dual nationalities, had refused to give up his Canadian nationality.
Parliamentary board
Qadri announced that his party Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) has formed a parliamentary board for candidates interested in participating in elections.
He asked the interested candidates to submit their applications to the board ahead of the party rally on March 17 in Rawalpindi where the final decisions will be announced.
The party chief had earlier said that he will tell the nation in his Rawalpindi rally whether to vote in an election or pursue a revolution. “My final contest will be on March 17 in Rawalpindi’s Liaqat Bagh,” he told a gathering in Multan last week.
During the rally, he had also presented what he called a 10-point national agenda “for progress and prosperity” of the people of Pakistan.

ACTUALLY people, Dr. Tahir - ul - Qadri, has many supporters and with that comes heavy media attention and also people who strongly oppose him. For security reasons, he is probably unable to get out of the house and is not allowed to open windows. Everywhere he goes he has to be surrounded by security to avoid deadly circumstances.imagine all the pressure he is receiving and look all the hard work doing; that definitely has to take it's toll on somebody. He is merely going to Canada to see his family, get some rest, revitalize. I am sure if all of you were in his position you would do the same thing. Through Almighty Allah's will, his hard work, determination and noble, intelligent and pious character, I hope he succeeds. Stop hating on a person who is trying to change a country, which no offense, is seriously corrupted and with nobody decent taking charge will go downhill. What a joike! The guy is going back to Canada to collect his welfare check and get his free medical check up, all at Canadian taxpayer's expense. No wonder the western nations with liberal immigration policies and welfare entitlements are going broke. This opportunistic shyster Quadri sought asylum in Canada claiming his life was in danger in Pakistan when, in fact, the went there to milk their generous welfare system so he can live well without having to work a single day.
Couldn't he get the medical checkup in Pakistan, if that is the real reason for him to go back to Canada? I sure hope the Canadian authorities reexamine his asylum case and deport him back to Pakistan for fraudulent claims on his asylum application.
Being a dual national he wants best of both the countries - Power in Pakistan and Welfare in Canada. His action proves that there are no capable doctors in Pakistan but ruling Pakistan, even from a Shahadat Container, is not a bad idea. Another crook!
@Rehan: In countries like Canada privacy means a lot. No government agency or Canadian Embassy for that matter would provide you information about Mr. Qadri or any of their citizens. As for as 'lies, morality' are concerned please listen to Mr. Qadri about what he says in English and then in Urdu or vice versa. Good Luck!

Fly's all the way to Canada to have medical exam - probably performed by Indian medical doctor. Why not stay in Pakistan and have your check up performed at "home"?
@Close_enough: This also proves by letter and spirit he is Canadian and not Pakistani. I wrote down many time in the past he must show us his last eight yrs tax return but so far he has not. We as commoner have the right to know assets of these politicians.
As a Canadian, I am aghast at how the system here is milked by unscrupulous people like him - essentially living off Canadian taxpayers (my tax money as well). If he was in Canada as a refugee, how come he went back to Pakistan, and that too so publicly - is he not under a threat now. How is able to fund himself while in Pakistan, and organise these rallies and media blitzes? If he has unds, why is then on welfare? My blood boils when I see people like him (from all nations, not just Pakistan) - who come to Canada under a false pretext, leech off the taxpayers and think it is their right to live so! I am an immigrant to Canada myself and have worked hard to be where I am today having had to start a new career in a completely different area from where I worked in my home country. I sincerely hope the Canadian govt is watching his activities and now cancels his refugee status and his welfare status!

It's really funny to see people's replies and the reporting of this newspaper. I personally saw the whole press conference and he showed his documents of how he got his nationality and what benefits he receives (none) and also said that if anyone has any doubts they can head down to the Canadian Embassy in Islamabad and ask for his full details. People have no fear of lies, morality and BSing about anything.
Talking rubbish is the way of our society that's why we've always been blessed with garbage leaders. The funny thing is he's even organised a meeting on the 13th and a jalsa at Liaqat bagh on the 17th of March. According to the same people wasn't he supposed to fly back on the 27th of January? lol
Talking about bringing revolution in a Pakistan and going for medical treatment in Canada. Is Pakistan is running short of Physicians? That shows his unpatriotic behavior towards Pakistan. His aim is just create chaos in the country and following the footstep of his Western Masters.
His trip to Pakistsn was well timed. He managed to avoid one of the worst winters here in Toronto.

I am sure Doctors will prescribe him complete rest with no possibility of flying any time soon. BTW, we will also see plane loads of PPP leaders going for routine checkups soon after govt dissolution.

In Pakistan we know how one weeks some times turns into years. Few other politicians also went for a routine check-up and never returned. TuQ's fun and game is over so his exit was inevitable.
