Opposition parties condemn Pakistan’s ‘descent into anarchy’

Leaders of political and religious parties condemn Election Commissioner Ebrahim for the voter verification process.

At an ‘All Parties Conference’ held at Jamat-e-Islami (JI) headquarters in Karachi, Idara Noor-e-Haq, on Wednesday, leaders of political and religious parties agreed that Pakistan is gradually heading towards anarchy in the absence of democratic principles, such as free and fair elections.



They also condemned Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G Ebrahim for “flouting the verdict of Supreme Court of Pakistan by keeping the army away from the electoral process”.

“Lawlessness and bloodshed are the results of a skewed democratic system,” said JI chief, Muhammad Hussain Mahenti. Dr Muhammad Siddique Rathor of Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan, Matloob Awan of Sunni Tehreek and Basharat Mirza of Pakistan Democratic Party, also attended the conference.
