FAISALABAD:
The Awaz-e-Haq Ittehad (AHI) has demanded reforms of education policy and modernisation of textbooks to provide quality education to schoolchildren.
In a meeting with parliamentarians from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PLM-N) on Reforms in Education Policies and Textbooks at the Chenab Club here on Monday, National Commission for Justice and Peace (NCJP) Executive Director Peter Jacob and Diocesan Director Nisar Barkat said the AHI was a coalition of 13 human rights organisations working for education policy reforms in the Punjab.
They presented a study called Taleem Ya Nafrat Ki Aabyari (education or nurturing hatred).
They proposed that any material considered discriminatory to religious minorities should be removed from the syllabus.
The meeting decided that organisations working on education would meet political leaders and organise conferences and seminars. It was also decided that the candidates expected to play a positive role in eliminating discrimination from the textbooks be supported in the elections.
MNA Hajji Muhammad Akram Ansari, MPAs Rana Afzal Khan, Joel Aamir Bobby, Dr Munawwar Fayyaz, Bonnie Mendes and Razia Joseph also spoke.
