BANNU:

An Elite Force and Frontier Corps (FC) official were among three people killed in separate incidents in Bannu district.

At nearly 12.30am, Shahid Khan, an Elite Force constable, was on his way to Mandan police station after attending a relative’s wedding when unidentified attackers opened fire, killing him on the spot. The accused managed to escape.

Nearly 12 hours later, unidentified men gunned down a FC official in old sabzi mandi area of Bannu city.

Police official Zinatullah said FC official Khan Zada was visiting his hometown for vacations. He was buying vegetables in a market when two men on a motorcycle opened fire, injuring him severely. Zada died on the way to hospital.

Separately, security forces and Mandan police conducted a sting operation early Saturday morning. Acting on a tip-off, police raided a militant hideout in Barat, during which a militant identified as Qamar Zaman was killed. Seven of his aides were taken into custody for investigation.

“Two improvised explosive devices were recovered from the house, which were defused by the bomb disposal squad,” said Imran Khan, an official at the Mandan police station. He added that the operation continued for two hours.
