Dissatisfied clerks: APCA refuses to take part in polls
“We will continue our protest and abstain from voting in the upcoming elections until our demands are met,” says Khan
PESHAWAR:
The All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA) said government departments’ clerical staff will not participate in the election process unless their Basic Pay Scale (BPS) is upgraded. Led by APCA Provincial President Aslam Khan, the protesters blocked Khyber Road for hours as they participated in a sit-in outside the provincial assembly. “We will continue our protest and abstain from voting in the upcoming elections until our demands are met,” said Aslam Khan. Clerical staff from Haripur, Dir, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Swat, Lakki Marwat, Peshawar and other parts of the province were also present. “I have been on BPS-7 as a junior clerk in the education department for the past 21 years without any promotion,” Banaras Khan, a protester, told The Express Tribune. Provincial general secretary of the Jamaat-e-Islami Shabbir Ahmad Khan, and former provincial minister Hafiz Hashmat Khan expressed solidarity with the demonstrators.
