Petroleum tax: Lahore High Court suspends levy on LPG

LAHORE:

The prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) are expected to come down after the Lahore High Court suspended the notification of the petroleum levy amounting to Rs3,500 per ton.

The levy was imposed by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources on local LPG producers to facilitate imports.

LPG producers in turn had passed on the cost of the levy to LPG companies who recovered from the consumers.

Four LPG marketing companies had moved to court against the implementation of the levy, which was imposed on local production to increase its price and facilitate imports. The petitioners submitted that imposition of this levy would increase price of the LPG.
