Launching ceremony: High achievers awarded laptops at UoP

The K-P government inaugurates its Nawa-e-Sahar Laptop Scheme.

PESHAWAR: Around 35 laptops were awarded to meritorious students of public sector universities and degree colleges at the convocation hall of the University of Peshawar (UoP) on Sunday. The ceremony was under the provincial government’s Nawa-e-Sahar Laptop Scheme. 

The K-P Chief Minister (CM) Amir Haider Khan Hoti stated education has remained the top priority of his government, as a testimony of which eight new universities have been establishment.

“The scheme has been launched as a means to keep our educated youth connected with the rest of the world and bring them at par with the rest of the country. An amount of one billion rupees was allocated for the scheme in this year’s fiscal budget,” he said.

The CM underscored tedious efforts to ensure transparency in the procurement and distribution of the laptops to around 25,000 students studying in the various degree programmes within the province. He directed the vice chancellors and head of institutions to see to the total transparency in the award of laptops to the deserving students.

He reiterated that the biggest challenge confronting the country is insurgency and terrorism. “The only way that we can overcome these threats is by educating our youth in accordance with requirement of the globalised world,” he added.

About the financial crisis within the public sector universities of K-P, he said it is the responsibility of the federal government to provide them with adequate funds till the next NFC awards. However, the K-P government would fully support to them if need be, he added.

K-P Secretary Education Farah Hamid said that some 23,147 laptops would be distributed in the scheme. She said students having secured 70% or above marks in their last semester examinations would be eligible to get the laptops. Besides, top 40 position holders of government Institutions from each board of intermediate and secondary education and board of technical education would also get laptops.

UoP Vice Chancellor Muhammad Rasul said that UoP is passing through a difficult phase following the devolution of higher education to provinces. This has led to serious financial problems for UoP, where a majority of the developmental projects and academic growth have come to a halt.

Moreover, he requested the CM to take up the issue of adequate funds allocation for varsities to relevant quarters for a tangible solution.

Under the scheme, a total of 2,800 laptops would be distributed among students of Bachelor of Science of UoP.

sir i am topper of Govt technical colge nowshera but we dont recived laptop why how we can got it.
