LAHORE: The Young Doctors Association (YDA) Punjab created chaos during the Metro Bus Service inauguration ceremony in Lahore on Sunday after failing to meet Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, reported Express News.
The young doctors have been holding a week long hunger strike demanding the provincial government to fulfil their demands.
At the inaugural event, police launched a crackdown against the protest, arresting young doctors. The arrested doctors were dragged on the roads and thrown into police vans.
Leaders of young doctors Hamid Butt and Nasir Bukhari were, however, not arrested.
Security was beefed up at Jail Road and Nishtar colony after the incident.
Police also baton-charged parliamentarian Shaukat Basra who had arrived at the event to participate in the young doctors protest.
Basra told the media that he was severely beaten up by the police and was wounded.
He said that he was beaten up at the behest of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and an FIR will be lodged against him.
SP Model Town Awais Malik accused Basra of provoking the doctors after having a harsh exchange of words with him.
Basra also abused Punjab authorities and police force in public.
The YDA Punjab’s protests had begun on February 8 after seven doctors were arrested for roughing up the medical superintendent of Gujranwala District Headquarters Hospital.

M Sure none of the writers have ever visited a govt hospital, look at the things the Doctors are protesting on, They want free cure in letter and spirit for poor people of the country..... in stead of supporting the cause, people are criticizing and ruining their sacrifices. So far as metro bus is concerned, Go and have it experienced....Media quiets on a complete new ravi bridge sacrificed for MBS, u cant step in with dignity, vagabonds free to swing and have fun. Who gives right to CM to disturb existing flow of traffic and compel poor rickshaw and bus drivers to take longer routs? Dependents of these public transports are also Pakistani citizens whose basic rights are attacked
These greedy doctors are backed by political parties like PPP and PTI. Shame for Doctors, PPP and PTI.

@Careless Whispers: Yes I agree with you. These YDA doctors should be terminated from their jobs. Those seven doctors who are involved in Gujranwala case must be prosecuted and put in jail. Their medical licenses also be cancelled permanently.
@stevenson: I recommend that you watch Mubashir Lucqman's coverage of the YDA strike via his show "Khara Sach" on youtube. This will give you a crystal clear and unbiased picture of what the strike is all about and what the doctors want. They are sat there in the cold without any food because they simply do not have the resources to deal with all the patients in these government hospitals. People are dying because of it and all they are asking is for the Punjab government to sit down with them and listen to their demands. None of which, during this particular strike, are personal. The show holds accounts of relatives of people who have fallen victim to the lack of facilities in these hospitals and proves that despite the doctor's best efforts they simply cannot cope without sufficient support from the government. It also proves that the doctors' motives are 100% altruistic. And by saying that "the ones who are being corrupt are the doctors" you are implying that your beloved CM or Punjab government haven't been corrupt. I hope you realize the falseness of that implication.

@Raza: The ones who are being corrupt and abusive are the Young doctors who should be put in jail for their abuse of management and officials. Who do they think they are? Do they think they deserve more than anyone else? They should be quiet and do their job. I hope the CM of Punjab is firm with these blackmailers who tarnish the medical professional with their loutish behaviour.
Good for Lahore and shahbaz Sharif did an awesome job. As a karachiate I really miss Mustafa Kamal.
The media houses are biased because of millions of rupee advertisement from Shabaz Sharif and the poor doctor are no match to bribe the multibillion industries .
So here we have group of doctors who are putting themselves at risk and leading a protest against the corrupt rulers of Punjab with the hope that maybe, just maybe they might be able to muster enough support from the general public and put enough pressure on the government so that their demand are met and they are provided with the right resources to be able to their jobs, which is to save people's lives. But instead of being applauded, appreciated or admired these doctors are being called a "mafia". They are being told that they deserve to be beaten up for daring to raise their voices against the leadership, or shall I say dictatorship. This makes me sick. For the people who believe that doctors are doing this for their own welfare and to secure higher pay checks please do your research. Yes, their demands include a fairer wage package which they no doubt deserve more than these corrupt politicians like PLM-N that you people are backing, but the emphasis is based on facilitates and resources being provided in these hospitals. And for those people saying that other people are working harder for less money and not complaining because we are poor country, that's now why they are working on low wages. They are working on low wages because thieves like the Sharif brothers are allowed to plunder are country again and again and still you people support them. Just because doctors have the guts to stand up to these people doesn't make them villians.

yda deserves this thrashing because instead of saviors they have become killers of children, men and women by refusing treatment to even dying people. I have seen small children die infront of their parents due to yda protests.shame on yda.
All the people who are writing against YDA. It is my humble request to know facts first. Please review their demands for the sit in and hunger strike. After going through their demands If you feel YDA are bunch of idiots playing in hands of politicians.. That is your ZARF den!

There are so many professionals in our country who work harder and have studied more than these so called docs but are less paid and enjoy far less perks. Whats so special about them?
Its time these folks realise that they can't keep the patients hostage and the perception they are generating is of jiyalas and not docs in the eyes of the public.
Political parties should also stop supporting such folks for good.
Young doctors want to became milliners over night which is impossible in a third world country like Pakistan. Try to understand the situation. Young doctors must stop blackmailing Punjab government. Why are they not protesting against other provincial governments? Why only Punjab? They are surely playing in the hands on other parties.
Strikes were not moral / legal BUTprotests were both moral and legals
Unfortunately YDA had PR disastrour during strike.
Now even their legidemate actions draws public criticism.

Shaukat Basra was busy in inaugurating Bilawal house yesterday & was least bit concerned about the YD's, while he has the time to join the YD's on this very day.
doctors are well known in society. they are respectable for all. that way not correct.
