KARACHI: Unseeded Mohsin Amin of Punjab lifted the Jubilee Insurance 5th National Junior U-21 Snooker Championship title as he defeated top-seed Amir Tariq 6-4 in the final, played at the Sheraton Hotel yesterday.

Amin went on a rampant streak as he chalked up five straight sets in his favour only to see Tariq making ground by winning the next four frames.

However, the unheralded Amin held onto his nerves to clinch a marathon five-hour win with scores of 71-30, 50-44, 57-23, 70-53, 66-52, 16-78, 19-63, 27-61, 04-98 and 70-15.

Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Federation (PBSF) president Alamgir Sheikh was delighted with Amin’s performance.

“We’ve luckily unearthed a talented youngster in Amin who would go on to do well for Pakistan in the coming years,” Sheikh told The Express Tribune. “He showed great temperament in a nerve-wrecking battle which indicates how good he can become in the events to come.”
