Both the leaders were joined in Islamabad by Allen’s successor, General Joseph F Dunford Jr, who will assume command of the 50-nation coalition force on Sunday.
The officials discussed issues related to their mutually shared goals of peace and stability in the region and strengthening cross-border cooperation.
While acknowledging that there is more to do, both the leaders were pleased with the progress to date.

Lst I checked Afghanistan is a sovereign country. It is for Afghans and aFghans alone to determine if they want a role for India or not. Pakistan does not get to dictate to the Afghans.
Progress could really be made if ISAF prevented India from using its presence in Afghanistan to sponsor terrorism in Pakistan, instead of trying to create a role for it where there is none.
Trust deficit needs to be reduced by coming to a one point agenda of eliminating terrorists in the mountains on both sides of the border.
It is great to see our leaders meeting to discuss our common objectives in the region. It is only fair to say that we have seen our fair share of challenges in our fight against the terrorists. At the same time, our partnership has played a crucial role in negating the threat posed by the terrorists. We’ve seen the difference it makes when our nations are working together to address our shared concerns. We have been able to capture some of the top terrorist leaders through each other’s cooperation. Meetings like these prove that our governments are working hard to restore peace in the region. We hope to see our partnership continue for the sake of achieving our shared objectives.
