Swift action: Police foil smuggling bid, recover large cache of arms

Police received intelligence reports after which contingents were deployed.

PESHAWAR: Police arrested an alleged smuggler, Khan Wada, in Chamkani and foiled an attempt to smuggle large quantities of small arms in from Darra Adam Khel to Punjab on Wednesday. The arms were been smuggled in a pickup van.

Police had received intelligence reports of the smuggling bid, after which contingents were deployed and check posts were set up along different routes.

The police intercepted the pickup van on GT Road near Jhagra and recovered the arms and ammunition hidden in the vehicle.

Wada, who is a resident of Darra Adam Khel, was put behind bars, while 123,000 gun cartridges, three AK-47s, a shotgun and four pistols were recovered. An FIR has been registered.
